Franciscan Ministries Unveils Vision for The Providence, a New Life Plan Community in New York’s Capital Region

New community will combine hospitality, wellness, thoughtful design and a strong connection to the region

The Providence is being thoughtfully designed with the future in mind and, most importantly, with the people who will call it home”
— Jeff Lundeen - Vice President, Ministry Development - Franciscan Ministries
ALBANY, NY, UNITED STATES, September 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Franciscan Ministries, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, is bringing a new vision for senior living to New York’s Capital Region with the development of The Providence, a future Life Plan Community sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago in partnership with the Daughters of Charity.

Scheduled to open in late 2028, The Providence is being designed to reflect how today’s older adults want to live – with greater choice, meaningful connections, opportunities to pursue interests and a lifestyle centered on wellness, hospitality and community.

The community will feature 159 residences, including Villas, Carriage Homes, Independent Living, Assisted Living and Ancora Memory Care. Residences will be connected through welcoming neighborhoods and a vibrant Town Center featuring multiple dining venues, wellness and fitness amenities, lifelong learning opportunities, landscaped outdoor spaces and gathering places designed to encourage connection.

“We don’t begin by designing buildings – we begin by imagining how people will actually live in them,” said Jeff Lundeen, Vice President of Ministry Development for Franciscan Ministries. “Every residence, gathering space, dining venue and outdoor environment is being thoughtfully considered to create a community where people can connect, pursue what matters to them and feel a genuine sense of belonging.”

Designed for the Future
The Providence reflects years of collaboration among Franciscan Ministries, the Daughters of Charity, Perkins Eastman, GSI, a Transforming Age Company, community partners and future residents. Together, the partners are bringing expertise in architecture, planning, senior living, hospitality and innovation to create a community designed for the next generation of older adults.

Perkins Eastman, a leading architectural firm globally recognized for its senior living design is leading the master-planning vision, while GSI is contributing expertise in Life Plan Community strategy, planning and innovation.

The planning process has also included input from future residents through The Providence Founders Club. Individuals who have secured their future residence with a 10% reservation deposit are helping shape programming, amenities, gathering spaces and other aspects of the resident experience.

“The Providence is being thoughtfully designed with the future in mind and, most importantly, with the people who will call it home,” Lundeen said. “Every space and experience is being considered as part of a community designed to grow and evolve with its members. Our goal is to create a place that feels welcoming from the beginning and continues to offer opportunities for connection, discovery and joy for years to come.”

A Community Rooted in Mission
The Providence represents a partnership between two organizations with deep histories of service. The Daughters of Charity bring more than 180 years of service and a legacy of compassionate care in the Capital Region, while Franciscan Ministries brings more than 130 years of experience developing and operating mission-driven senior living communities.

Franciscan Ministries’ Living Joyfully philosophy will help shape the resident experience, with an emphasis on choice, connection, purpose and opportunities to pursue what brings meaning to everyday life. Joy Lives Here serves as an invitation to discover that experience at The Providence.

The development also reflects Franciscan Ministries’ commitment to responsible stewardship. The project incorporates thoughtful site planning, environmentally responsible practices and consideration for the natural landscape, informed by the Franciscan tradition of caring for people, community and creation and the principles of Laudato Si’.

Investing in the Capital Region
The Providence is being developed as an active part of the broader Capital Region. Franciscan Ministries is engaging with local officials, business leaders and community organizations while exploring opportunities for partnerships with healthcare systems, universities and other organizations.

“We believe the strongest senior living communities are deeply connected to the communities around them,” Lundeen said. “The Providence is being designed not simply as a place to live, but as a community that can contribute to the broader Capital Region and its future.”

“The Providence represents much more than a new Life Plan Community,” said Regina Umanskiy, President and CEO of Franciscan Ministries. “It represents what’s possible when mission-driven organizations, experienced partners and future residents come together around a shared vision. We’re creating a community that honors the region’s history while looking confidently toward its future.”

Development of The Providence will continue through 2028, with the community scheduled to open in late 2028.
