Yemen’s STC Disbands in Major Political Shift
The decision was delivered through a pre-recorded announcement aired on Yemen’s state television and reported by a news agency. The statement was read by Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, who previously served as secretary-general of the STC’s presidential body prior to its dissolution.
In his address, bin Brik confirmed that the council, along with all its primary and subsidiary institutions, would be dismantled, and that every STC office inside Yemen and abroad would be shut down.
He explained that the move is intended to clear the path for organizing a broad-based southern national dialogue conference under the sponsorship of Saudi Arabia.
Bin Brik noted that the decision was influenced by recent political and security developments in Yemen’s eastern governorates of Hadramout and Al-Mahra.
He added that the timing also aligns with preparations to participate in an upcoming southern dialogue meeting expected to take place in Riyadh.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia extended invitations to all southern Yemeni political factions to join a conference designed to establish a fair and inclusive framework for addressing the long-standing southern issue.
The initiative followed a formal request from Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, and has garnered wide regional support.
