• Avoid overloading outlets or using damaged electrical cords, which can quickly become fire hazards

Fire Prevention Month was first established in recognition of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which destroyed thousands of buildings and displaced more than 100,000 people. Today, it serves as a reminder that prevention and preparation save lives.
